I blog as Joan Elizabeth but outside the blogosphere I am just Joan. My husband Ian and I live in the Lawson a town in the Blue Mountains, NSW Australia. The city of the Blue Mountains, 50-120kms west of Sydney, comprises 26 small towns within 1000 square kilometres of World Heritage listed National Park so an incredibly beautiful place to live.

My blogs
I started writing Blue Mountains Journal in 2007 when I had a year off work and decided to explore the mountains by walking each day, taking photographs and learning to name the flowers and birds. Naming the trees continues to elude me.

Some time later I found I was also enjoying adventures beyond the mountains so began Sweet Wayfaring. After we bought a small caravan we extended our reach to inland Australia where we've fallen in love with the rural and arid landscape and want to see more.

Finding myself back at work and with little time to spare for blogging I started Burnbrae Journal because I have a lovely garden and a quick stroll on the weekend, camera in hand, could produce a week of posts with ease. I dreamt that it would help me be a better gardener but that also eludes me.

In 2011 I began Whistlers Rest the name we gave to the 1 acre bush block we purchased at Clandulla a tiny town in the mid-west, 2 hours drive from Lawson. I has been an interesting record of exploring a new area and learning about life beyond the reach of the great city of Sydney and its commuter trains.  We haven't lived there, just camped out some weekends.

Also in 2011 I started my Royal Collection. Photographs of the many Royal Hotels I have found during my travels and also added contributions from others.  Royal Hotel is still the most popular hotel name in Australia though many are now aging and mostly a feature of country towns rather than the city.

In 2012 I completed an exciting project visiting 100 towns in central NSW. It was a wonderful way to get out exploring.  I have never quite managed to top this project in the years that have followed.

In 2017 there has been a new devepment, we love the mid-west so much we have decided to retire in the area and bought a home in Kandos (which is 12 kms from our bush block at Clandulla).  So I have a whole new range of photographic opportunities to explore with a new garden and new town. I will be adding to the Whistlers Rest blog rather than starting yet another blog! For the while we are splitting our time between the Blue Mountains and Kandos until we retire in earnest.

10 years of blogging
I blogged for a year just for myself with barely a comment coming in. Then I joined City Daily Photo where I found many wonderful photographers and like minded people and loved the comments, interation and friendship.

But it didn't continue.  It's great to claim 10 years but I got into a blog malaise several years ago and in the past two years have barely posted.  I have missed having a journal of the delight I find in the world around me so have resolved to start again with a fresh look and fresh energy in 2018.

Please just pick the blog that suits you best and enjoy the journey with me.

Such a great idea to group your blogs together in this tabbed format.
